Today I attended the Genealogy and History of the Eastern Shore Conference being held in Accomack, Virginia. It was really a wonderful experience. I made some new friends and learned quite a bit about my Ancestral home. You know, one of the speakers talked about the importance of not losing our family history. We must pass it on to our children. In the case of African Americans, much of our history was passed down, orally, not through written documentation. This makes it even more important that we not lose our heritage. None of us can expect our children to have an appreciation of their family history if we don’t teach it to them. They may not be enthusiastic today, but that tends to change as they get older.
